How to Loosen a Corroded Pipe

Over time, certain types of pipes have the potential to corrode. For example, this often happens with old metal pipes.

If you find yourself dealing with this issue, you know how difficult it can be to loosen the fitting in order to tackle the task at hand.

Fortunately, there are a variety of tools and products you can rely on. Here are a few tips to consider:

·      Spray lubricant on the outside of the joint. From there, give it five to 10 minutes to do its magic. Soon enough, once enough rust is dissolved, you may be able to complete the task.

·      Use two wrenches. Grip the fitting with one wrench and the pipe it’s attached to with the other. From there, use brute strength to pull them apart. If you want to make life easier, do this after first using a spray lubricant.

·      Tap the fitting lightly with a hammer. This doesn’t mean you should slug the fitting as hard as possible. Instead, in the proper direction, give it a slight tap.

There are times when one of these tricks does the job. There are also times when nothing you do seems to work.
